Planning submission has been made to Merton Council for the development of a new affordable housing scheme in Mitcham. The proposal involves the demolition of the existing building and a new development of 51 self contained affordable residential units arranged over 6 floors.
The development will opt for a car free scheme, except for 3 accessible spaces and 3 car club spaces, plus secure cycle storage for 51 cycles (one per unit) to promote and encourage sustainable travel. The proposed building aims to provide an aesthetically appropriate approach on a difficult site. The combination of brick and timber effect cladding provides a tactile proposal respecting the surrounding properties and in particular the adjoining Eagle House, a Grade I listed building built in 1705.
